No more Teacher I retirements — Gatchalian

No public school teacher will retire as Teacher I, Sen. Win Gatchalian assured, as the Department of Education (DepEd) targets the promotion of 100,000 teachers and school heads this year.

Gatchalian said the move follows the implementation of the Career Progression System for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act (Republic Act No. 12288), which expands career paths in teaching and school administration, including new positions from Teacher IV to VII, Master Teacher V and VI, and School Principal V.

“Ngayong mas marami nang oportunidad para sa pag-angat ng karera ng ating mga guro, mas matutulungan natin silang umunlad at magtagumpay sa kanilang propesyon,” said Gatchalian.

“Mahalagang itaguyod natin ang kapakanan ng ating mga guro lalo na’t sila ang may pinakamahalagang papel sa edukasyon ng ating mga kabataan,” the sponsor and co-author of the law added.

The law also directs DepEd to issue clear guidelines on the promotion of teachers and school leaders.IMT
