President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. swore in boxing icon and former senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao as Secretary and Lead Convenor of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC).
Marcos Jr. administered Pacquiao’s oath during a ceremony at Malacañang on September 8.
Pacquiao replaced Lope B. Santos III, who had served as NAPC Secretary and Lead Convenor since January 2023.
His appointment came after the NAPC was placed back under the administrative supervision of the Office of the President from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The NAPC coordinates the government’s poverty reduction and social reform programs, including the implementation of the Social Reform Agenda and the participation of basic sectors in governance.
Under Republic Act 8425, the NAPC is also tasked with preparing the National Anti-Poverty Action Agenda, which covers social, economic, ecological and governance concerns.IMT
