Malacañang has assured the safety of former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co once he is brought back to the Philippines to face charges over the multibillion-peso flood control scandal.
A lawmaker, however, warned that ensuring Co’s safety remains a major challenge, noting some groups may not want him to return and testify on the controversy.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the government is taking all legal steps to bring Co home, after he was stopped at the German border and sent back to Czech authorities, where he is now in custody.
The President added a high-level team will be deployed to monitor and facilitate developments.
Co is facing graft and malversation charges before the Sandiganbayan over alleged anomalies in a DPWH Region IV-B flood control project.IMT
