The Department of Health (DOH) is monitoring the reported plague case in Russia and is following recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), according to Malacañang.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the health department is taking the necessary steps in case the disease poses a threat to the Philippines.
“So rest assured, our fellow citizens… the DOH is focused on this, and whatever else needs to be done, they will do it,” Castro said during a press briefing at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
“So far, they are meeting the requirements to ease our fears regarding this plague happening in Russia,” she added.
The WHO has assessed the risk of an epidemic in Russia as low following the sudden death of a laboratory technician at a research institute in Siberia.
Russian authorities have placed the research center and several nearby medical facilities under strict quarantine measures. The WHO said there was no indication of a wider outbreak.IMT
