President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remains focused on addressing the country’s immediate problems instead of the 2028 elections, Malacañang said.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the statement when asked about reports that the administration was considering a political tandem for the 2028 presidential elections.
Castro said she was not given details about any possible tandem, adding that the administration’s attention is currently on issues such as the threat of a Super El Niño and the crisis in the Middle East.
“Marami pang dapat tugunan, pati itong mga isyu tungkol sa krisis sa Middle East. So, sa ngayon ay hindi politika o pamumulitika ang iniisip ng administrasyon,” she said.
Castro was also asked about the petition filed before the Supreme Court challenging the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
The press officer said the Office of the President had yet to receive a copy of the petition and would respond to any order issued by the Supreme Court.
The government will be represented by the Office of the Solicitor General in the case, Castro said.IMT
