President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed his condolences to the people and government of Colombia following the powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on Monday.
In a social media post, Marcos expressed the Philippines’ solidarity with Colombia as it deals with the deaths and destruction caused by the earthquake.
“The Philippines conveys our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Colombia for the lives lost and the devastation caused by the powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake,” he said.
“As a nation along the Pacific Ring of Fire, Filipinos deeply understand the pain and challenges brought by earthquakes. We stand in solidarity with Colombia as they rise through this ordeal, rebuild livelihoods and communities, and recover completely. Our thoughts are with all those affected,” the President added.
Colombia declared a state of emergency following the earthquake, one of the strongest to hit the country in recent years.
The quake struck at 7:34 a.m. local time, with its epicenter near San José del Palmar in western Colombia, about 280 kilometers west of capital Bogotá.
The powerful quake caused widespread damage and prompted emergency response and recovery operations.IMT
