The Philippines is stepping up efforts to build a digital economy that can support businesses and create more high-value jobs for Filipinos, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Thursday.
Marcos Jr. said the government is expanding secure internet connectivity and computing infrastructure while strengthening cybersecurity and putting safeguards in place for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
“We are also building the digital foundations of a modern economy,” Marcos Jr. said in his speech at the 2026 Luzon Economic Corridor Investment Forum in Taguig City.
The President said the country already has a pool of workers with digital skills, but the goal is to move them into higher-paying and more specialized jobs.
“We are enabling them to move into the higher-value work and helping Filipino enterprises become creators—not merely users—of the new technologies,” he said.
Marcos Jr. also said the government is working to improve the country’s energy supply, including the development of renewable resources and a stronger power grid.
“We want our country to help design and build the solutions that will shape our future,” he said.IMT
