President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called for a unified Asian response to the ongoing energy emergency, warning that no country can handle supply shocks alone.

“What this crisis has confirmed is a structural truth: no single country in Asia can insulate itself from supply chain shocks of this scale by acting alone,” Marcos Jr. said at the AZEC Plus online summit led by Japan.

The President stressed the Philippines’ heavy reliance on imported oil and outlined key measures, including diversifying fuel sources, boosting oil and LPG reserves, and tightening inventory rules.

He said the government is also fast-tracking a Strategic Petroleum Reserve, expanding biofuels use, and pushing transport electrification to cut dependence on imports.

“We cannot wait for the next crisis to act,” Marcos Jr. said. “We must build resilience now.”IMT
