President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered newly installed Armed Forces chief Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete to protect the Filipino people and defend the country’s sovereignty.
Nafarrete formally assumed the post as the 61st AFP chief, replacing Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., who retired after reaching the mandatory retirement age.
During the change of command ceremony, Marcos assured the military that his administration would continue investing in the AFP’s capabilities, readiness, and personnel.
“Your task is… to safeguard our people, defend every inch of our land and waters, and secure the future of our Republic,” the President told Nafarrete.
Marcos also reiterated that while the Philippines remains committed to peace and international law, it “will never compromise our sovereignty.”IMT
