The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has ordered an investigation into those spreading fake news, including false reports claiming that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa had been arrested.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said PCO Secretary Dave Gomez has instructed the agency’s Anti-Fake News Desk to identify those behind the misleading posts and determine whether they were spread with malicious intent.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government earlier denied the reports, saying law enforcement authorities are still pursuing the senator.

Castro also appealed to the media to help stop the spread of false information by checking the credibility of their sources before sharing reports.

She added that the government is also studying possible legal action against those responsible for spreading fake news while tracing where the false claim first came from.IMT
