Santa Barbara, Iloilo Mayor Rema Somo got infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Luyag ko ipahibalo sa akon mga pinalangga nga mga kasimanwa, I have tested positive for COVID 19,” Somo said in a statement on Sunday, June 27.

“Bilang public servant kag wala untat nga naga-atender sa mga kinahanglanon sang aton mga pumuloyo, indi gid malikawan nga ma-infect ako sa nature sang akon trabaho,” she added.

The mayor’s husband and their son also tested positive for the viral disease.

“Since I am fully vaccinated upod ang akon bana, mild lang ang amon nabatyagan kag subong naka home quarantine lang kami upod sa akon bata nga lalaki,” said Somo.

Contact tracing efforts are underway for those the mayor came in close contact with.

“Ako, na gapangayo gid sang pasaylo sa sini nga inconvenience kag please maghalong gid kita kag mag sunod sa health protocol,” said Somo.

As of June 26, Santa Barbara has the highest active COVID-19 cases in the province of Iloilo with 282, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.IMT
