Sometime January saw a gathering of some of the most powerful in the global arena in Davos, Switzerland for the annual Economic Summit. World leaders, major decision-makers and business giants meet up at this supposedly prestigious summit for a week or so to discuss global issues. Some subjects at this year’s gathering are the Ukraine war, global inflation rates, climate change and inequality, ironically.

I say ironically because it has been revealed that this global event is also a gathering of some high class prostitutes and escorts that service the attendees some for a night and some for the entire duration of the event. Demands for these workers are at an all time high every January when the summit is held.

A sex worker who uses the name Liana says she caters to a high-powered American who regularly goes to Switzerland and is part of the Summit’s 2700 delegates. Liana shared she dresses in business attire to blend in with the crowd in the gathering. Her hourly rate is $760 or nearly p42,000 and $2,500 a night or p138,000 plus travel expenses.

Meanwhile, in 2020 it was learned that almost a hundred sex workers travelled to Davos in time for the Summit.

In this earthly existence nothing is more intoxicating than these three: Sex , Power and Money. To have all three at the same time must feel like you rule the world. Whatever happened to these attendees who also espouse women empowerment, equality and justice? What happens when they return to their respective communities after a sexual bacchanalia, would they fight for women-oriented advocacies still?

The sex though doesn’t bother me as much as the hypocrisy of it all. Summits like these are suppose to jumpstart solutions to major issues affecting the global arena. A sturdy moral compass for one. I am far from being righteous here, all I’m saying is why even bother?
