Two teams bannering Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts and Antique wrapped up the 2023 Dinagyang Festival Volleyball League at the Jaro Gym with blowout victories.

Showing clever sets and powerful spikes, Tay Tung swept the girls 18-under after walloping Central Philippine University (CPU) to snatch the title.

Alex Montoro, a transferee from Trinity Christian School provided the sparks for the team, giving her the the Finals MVP plum in the tournament.

Trained by coaches Ian Macariola and Roberto Calamba Jr., the team is composed of Katherine Shaine Cortez, Amber Lily Biong, Gwen Bañas and Michela Sophie Cagalawan who will graduate this year. The legacy will be continued by fellow teammates Dona Mae De Leon, Jothea Mae Ramos. Jihan Isabelle Chuatico, Ana Francessca Hermosura, Patricia Grace Hiponia, Alijah Marie Ysulan, Elphie Grace Cahilig and Antheai Nishant Galicia.

Meanwhile, duplicating its winning performance, BTTHS 15-under completed the celebration after hammering St. John’s Institute-Bacolod Falcons in the finals clash.

The Ralph Savellano-mentored crew relied on former national U-18 girls volleyball team members Camila Bartolome, Rhose Almendralejo, Jan Rose Bulak, Caitlin Espinosa and Joenil Anne Ramos in their championship feat. Mary Antonette Bontia, Kara Feril, Jam Montalbo, Edz karylle Escultura, Czarina Dosayla, Brianna Ang, Alexa Bertolano and Ana Ysabelle Hermosura also joined the winning squad.

In other divisions, D’Navigators emerged as the champion after beating Tarag Lolek-Cadiz in the gold medal match of the men’s open, while Antique crushed Taft Street Juniors in the 18-Under boys match organized by organized by Gametime Sports in coordination with Iloilo City.IMT Sports
