Mayor Jerry Treñas will hold a meeting today, July 19, with representatives from different sectors to discuss the increasing cases of dengue in Iloilo City.

The online meeting is expected to be attended by barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials, business operators, religious leaders and journalists, among others.

Treñas said a coordinated and multilateral effort is needed to effectively combat the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

“Cases of dengue are going up rapidly,” said Treñas.

From January 1 to July 16 this year, the City Health Office (CHO) logged 289 dengue cases, higher by 45 percent compared to the figure recorded in the same period a year ago.

Dengue is transmitted through the bite of dengue-infected Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes.

Its symptoms include fever, severe pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, and skin rashes.IMT
