Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas has ordered a review of security measures in city schools following the deadly shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato.
Treñas said she had already issued the directive after a similar shooting in Tacloban in June and was reiterating the need to keep students safe following the latest incident.
“I am deeply saddened and alarmed by the tragic shooting incident at Banga National High School in South Cotabato, which claimed the lives of students and left others injured,” she said in a statement posted on Facebook.
“Bisan wala ini natabo sa Iloilo City, we cannot take the safety of our students for granted,” the mayor said.
Treñas said she directed the Iloilo City Schools Division, Iloilo City Police Office and concerned city offices to review and further strengthen security measures in all schools.
The mayor also extended her condolences to the families of those killed and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
“Rest assured that the City Government of Iloilo remains on top of school security and will continue to work closely with our schools and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of our learners,” Treñas said.
“The safety of every Ilonggo learner is, and will always be, one of our highest priorities,” she added.IMT
