Sen. Mark Villar is pushing for stronger security measures in schools through the proposed Learning Institution’s Guaranteed Threat Avoidance and Safety (LIGTAS) Act.

The measure was filed following several shooting and stabbing incidents involving students in different parts of the country in recent months.

Among the proposed measures are increased police visibility, emergency hotlines, CCTV cameras, security screening systems, trained security guards, and adequate first-aid equipment in schools.

The bill also seeks to create School Safety Councils in every city and municipality to improve coordination among schools, local governments, police, and emergency responders.

“Hindi natin puwedeng hayaang maging normal ang takot sa loob ng paaralan. We need to act before another life is lost,” Villar said.IMT
