The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has yet to establish the cause of the fire that hit Barangay San Nicolas, La Paz district, Iloilo City on Feb. 18.

The fire, which reached the fourth alarm and lasted for more than an hour, claimed two lives and gutted several boarding houses.

According to City Fire Marshall Melanie Habawel, the blaze may have been electrical in nature.

“Daku ang posibilidad nga electrical [issues] ang cause sang fire pero i-determine ta pa kon paano gid ini natabo,” she said.

Based on their initial investigation the fire started from a boarding house owned by Arnel Tormon.

“Ang dalum sang boarding house is made of concrete. Ang second floor is made of bamboo and other light materials. Daku ang posibilidad nga sa babaw halin ang kalayo,” Habawel said.

The damage caused by the fire was pegged at around P2 million.IMT
