The wife of the first patient who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province of Iloilo is also confined at The Medical City (TMC).

Dr. Jane Juanico, head of the Infectious Disease Unit of the Department of Health (DOH-6), said the wife was brought to the hospital on Friday night, March 20.

“Compared sa iya husband, mas stable ang iya condition,” she said.

In a press conference on Saturday, March 21, DOH-6 Director Marlyn Convocar said the coronavirus-positive patient is “unstable” because the latter has pre-existing medical conditions.

Juanico said swabs were already taken from the wife and will be sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila for testing.

On the other hand, the patient in Bacolod City who also got infected with the deadly virus is recovering well and is “ready for discharge,” according to Juanico.

“I-home quarantine sya and we will do a repeat sang test sa iya after 14 days,” Juanico said.

The DOH-6, in coordination with local government units and health facilities, is currently tracking down all those who came in close contact with the patients.

At present there are two COVID-19 cases, almost a hundred patients under investigation (PUIs) and at least 30 thousand persons under monitoring (PUMs) for the disease in Western Visayas.IMT
