More than 214,000 private sector workers across Western Visayas will see higher pay after the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) approved a daily minimum wage increase ranging from P40 to P45.
Under Wage Order No. RBVI-30, affirmed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), non-agricultural, industrial, and commercial establishments with more than 10 employees will receive a daily minimum wage of P590, up by P40 from the previous P550.
For smaller establishments employing 10 workers or fewer in the same sector, the daily wage will increase by P40, moving from P525 to P565.
Agricultural workers will get a P45 daily boost, raising their minimum pay from P520 to P565.
The wage adjustment covers the entire region, including Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, and will be implemented on Nov. 19.
Meanwhile, Wage Order No. RBVI-DW-08 raised the monthly wage of an estimated 68,000 domestic workers (kasambahays) in the region. They will receive a P500 monthly increase, bringing their monthly minimum wage to P7,000.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-6) issued the orders following public consultations with labor and business sector representatives.
DOLE Secretary Francis N. Tolentino said that the regional board balanced the rising cost of living, inflation, and workers’ purchasing power against employers’ capacity to pay.IMT
