
Heavy rains, spawned by the Typhoon “Inday”-enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat), caused landslides and flooding in various parts of Iloilo province.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO)-Operation Center has recorded flooding in seven towns as of 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 12.
These towns are New Lucena, Tubungan, Zarraga, Oton, Cabatuan, Janiuay, amd Pototan.
Meanwhile, continuous rains triggered landslides in Tubungan, Leon, Maasin, and Igbaras.
A total 670 families or 2,994 persons in the province have been affected. Eighteen families (136 persons) of them are currently staying in evacuation center, while 41 families (89 persons) are temporarily staying with relatives or outside evacuation centers.
The Operation Center also logged three totally destroyed houses and four partially damaged houses.
The landslide in Tubungan on Sunday morning, July 12, killed a 68-year-old farmer.
The victim, identified as Placido Tabalno Tabalina of Sitio Sidlangan in Barangay Nagba, was likely sleeping when the incdient occurred, according to police.
Another farmer died after he was electrocuted in a rice field in Barangay Balabag, Dumangas, Iloilo, on Saturday, July 11.
The victim, identified by authorities as Sherwin Tamayo, was trying to fix a hanging live electrical wire when he was electrocuted.
The PDRMMO-Operation Center advised residents “to remain vigilant, monitor official weather advisories, and immediately coordinate with their respective [local government units] in case of emergencies.”IMT
