Three fishing vessels and their crew members were apprehended for alleged illegal fishing activities off the coast of Barangay Buenavista in Carles, Iloilo on August 27, following a joint maritime operation by local and regional law enforcement units.
The operation was conducted by the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force, 2nd Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company (2IPMFC), and Regional Intelligence Unit 6 (RIU-6).
Authorities first intercepted F/B Sister, piloted by a resident of Barangay Bancal, Carles, along with its crew.Confiscated were the fishing boat valued at P150,000, fishing paraphernalia worth P100,000, and a tub of anchovies valued at P5,000.
A blue, unnamed fishing vessel operated by a resident of Barangay Tabugon, Carles, with three crew members from Barangay Tinigban, was also intercepted for allegedly engaging in dynamite fishing. Authorities recovered five kilograms of assorted fish valued at P2,500.
Another green, unnamed fishing boat, carrying a pilot and crew members who are all residents of Barangay Buenavista, was likewise apprehended for alleged dynamite fishing. Officers confiscated boat accessories and five kilograms of assorted fish worth P2,500.
The three are currently detained at the Carles Municipal Police Station custodial facility pending proper disposition of the case.
Meanwhile, the confiscated fishing boats, equipment, and paraphernalia remain under the custody of the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force pending the filing of appropriate charges.IMT
