An alleged “buhawi” or tornado swept through parts of Iloilo City on Saturday night, Aug. 8.
Swirling winds damaged houses, uprooted trees, and knocked down posts in the city.
Based on the city government’s initial report, 48 houses in Barangay Cubay, Jaro were affected.
The alleged tornado also toppled several trees and damaged kiosks at Jaro Plaza.
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) personnel immediately responded to the incident.
Meanwhile, power distributor More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) dispatched teams to replace damaged polls and lines in the city.
In a statement, Mayor Raisa Treñas advised the public to stay alert and prioritize safety.
“Ang aton na team naga libot subong para sa assessment sa mga areas na apektohan,” she said.IMT
