Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano has urged Christians to help fight harmful values in society instead of allowing these to influence their beliefs and actions.
Speaking to around 2,000 members of the Blessed Hope Christian Community Church in Cagayan de Oro City on Sunday, Aug. 23, Cayetano said culture can affect even people who enter politics with good intentions.
“Every single politician, including myself, has this challenge. We enter (politics) very idealistic, but the question is, do we beat the system? Or does the system beat us?” he said.
Cayetano said corruption, revenge and abortion are among the problems that can become part of a society’s culture if people simply accept them.
“Ang kingdom ni God ay may culture. Ang kingdom ng demonyo, may culture — y’ung culture ng sakit, culture ng korapsyon, culture ng revenge, culture ng abortion, of death. (This) is the culture of the kingdom of the devil,” he said.
The senator said Christians should not only criticize these problems but also show through their actions that there is a better way to live.
Cayetano also urged the church to bring its message beyond its members and become a source of hope in the community and the country.
He said Christians should put their trust in God amid fear and uncertainty, including whatever challenges they may face in their personal and political lives.
“Where is my hope? My hope is in the living God. My hope is that, ‘Lord, wherever you put me, that’s where you meant me to be,’” Cayetano said.
He stressed that having faith does not mean having no fear. Rather, people should not allow fear to take away their trust in God.IMT
