A 48-year-old police captain was shot dead while responding to a reported commotion at a KTV bar in Barangay Binuntucan, Pontevedra, Capiz, late Sunday night, July 20.
The victim was identified as Police Captain Rian Fuentes Ampoyos, a resident of a resident of Barangay Swa, President Roxas, Capiz.
Ampoyos, assigned to the 1st Capiz Police Mobile Force Company, sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and was declared dead on arrival at Bailan District Hospital.
PCPT Mark Anthony Garcia, officer-in-charge of the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, said the vicitim was having dinner with two fellow off-duty police officers when the owner of the KTV bar reported a commotion at another table.
As Ampoyos approached the area to check the situation, one of the suspects allegedly shot him using a caliber .45 firearm.
Police arrested the prime suspect, identified only as “William,” 38, of Barangay Jolongajog, Pontevedra, and recovered the firearm, along with three magazines containing ammunition.
William is under police custody and will face homicide complaint and another possible charge for violating Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
