Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Federation president Amalia Victoria Debuque on Tuesday, April 21, clarified that she is not for or against the postponement of the November 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
In an official statement, Debuque said she “will follow whatever the national government and the Supreme Court (SC) decides” on the proposed postponement of the elections.
“I am not for or against postponement — but I strongly stand for a credible, and lawful election,” she stressed.
Several members of the House of Representatives, including Bacolod City Representative Albee Benitez, are pushing for the postponement of the BSKE and redirect the P19-billion budget to mitigating the impact of rising fuel prices.
“If we are ready financially especially in our crisis now, then we proceed. If not, then any delay must be clearly justified and never just for politics,” said Debuque
“Any changes must be legal, necessary, and transparent. After all, the people of our barangay has the right to know the process,” she added.
Meanwhile, Debuque urged village officials in Iloilo province to continue serving their respective constituents with integrity and compassion.IMT
