Teachers, students, and parents in Western Visayas may soon have a faster and more accessible way to report school safety concerns through a mobile application that is currently being developed by the Department of Education (DepEd-6).

DepEd-6 Regional Director Cristito A. Eco introduced the initiative during the EduAKSYON press conference on June 30.

He said the application, called “WeCare Assist,” is intended to make reporting possible safety-related incidents easier and more accessible for the school community.

“This will help us a lot in reporting possible incidents. Ang tawag natin dito, WeCare Assist,” Eco told reporters.

Once launched, the app will allow users to report incidents that may threaten school safety and security, helping authorities respond more quickly and effectively.

“At dito, right away, puwede ang bata, ang parents, kahit sino, mag-report ng kanilang nakita,” Eco said.

The initiative comes amid heightened concerns over school safety following the recent shooting incident in Tacloban City.

Through WeCare Assist, the DepEd-6  aims to strengthen campus security and help ensure that schools remain safe spaces where students can learn and thrive.

Eco emphasized that ensuring school safety is a shared responsibility among educators, parents, students, and the community.

“Tayong lahat, magsama-sama para masigurado nating safe ang mga paaralan para sa mga bata,” he said.

Pilot testing is expected to begin this July, after which the DepEd-6 will evaluate the application’s effectiveness before implementing it across the region. Jeanne Rose Sazon, WVSU-COC intern
