Focus crime incidents in Western Visayas went down by 36.96 percent in August 2026, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO-6).
The region logged a total of 116 focus crimes from August 1 to 31, lower compared with 184 incidents in the same period last year.
Focus crimes, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP), are offenses that occur with notable frequency and regularity.
These include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles, and carnapping of motorcycle.
Based on data from PRO-6, rape registered the sharpest drop among the focus crimes, plunging 69.57 percent as cases fell from 46 to 14.
Homicide posted a 54.55 percent drop from 11 to five cases, while motorcycle carnapping decreased by 50 percent from four to two.
Meanwhile, robbery fell by 45.16 percent from 31 to 17 cases, physical injury dropped by 1.67 percent from 36 to 21, and theft saw a slight 4.08 percent reduction from 49 to 47.
“We welcome the decrease, but we see these numbers as a responsibility to keep improving,” said Police Brigadier General Randulf Torres Tuaño, PRO-6 director.
“Crime prevention is not only about responding when something happens. It is also about being present, listening to our communities, and acting on concerns before they become bigger problems,” he continued. IMT
