President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered local governments to use at least 50% of their Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) to provide free rice to residents.
The rollout will start within 1–2 weeks, aimed at easing household costs amid Middle East tensions.
“Magsisimula na rin na magbigay ang ating mga LGU ng libreng bigas… iro-roll out ito within the next week or two,” the President said.
LGUs may allocate up to 100% of funds for rice distribution.
He also assured the public of no immediate price hikes on basic goods, as companies still have existing inventory.
“Habang nandiyan ang kanilang imbentaryo… hindi nila itataas ang presyo ng mga primary commodities,” he added.IMT
