Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has urged the Department of Energy, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and the Energy Regulatory Commission to immediately address the recurring power interruptions affecting several areas nationwide.
Gatchalian said the brownouts are unacceptable, especially as many government offices have shifted to a four-day work week due to tensions in the Middle East.
The senator also called on the ERC to hold generation companies accountable if repeated plant outages are causing the power disruptions.
“Every hour of a brownout brings business operations to a standstill, disrupts the education of our youth, and paralyzes the daily lives of our communities, most critically, it puts at risk patients whose survival depends on electricity-powered medical equipment,” according to him.
Gatchalian also urged the NGCP to improve grid management and ensure enough ancillary services to prevent outages during peak demand.
“Kailangan ng malinaw na paliwanag, agarang aksyon, at pananagutan mula sa mga awtoridad,” he added.IMT
