Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian is pushing for a law against nihilistic violent extremism (NVE), citing growing cases of violence involving students.
Gatchalian said children are being recruited through social media and gaming platforms, where they are allegedly groomed into committing violent acts.
“There is a sense of urgency in crafting a specific law to address NVE, the online grooming of children, and the brainwashing that leads them to commit acts of violence,” he said.
The senator’s proposal came after authorities foiled a planned school attack in Laguna involving minors allegedly linked to Roblox, while a suspect in the Tacloban school shooting was reportedly influenced by the game GoreBox.IMT
