The Iloilo City Council is in the process of polishing an electronic system that will make its records, including ordinances and resolutions passed by the council since it started in the 1940s, accessible to the general public online.
Vice Mayor Lady Julie Grace Baronda said it is not just like a library, but the Records Management System will make it easier for members of the city council to conduct sessions and render committee reports, and for the secretariat to track the progress of the work at the committee level and the status of the legislative agenda.
“The Records Management System is doing the process as a whole. Hopefully, in the next months or in the next two months, all records of the city council will be accessible to the public. They are now doing the finishing touches,” she said.
Currently, only members of that system have access.
The initiative is being undertaken in partnership with the Central Philippine University and consultants.
Baronda said she hoped members of the city council would support the initiative, which is also one way to promote transparency.IMT
