The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) collected 140 loose firearms in a sustained campaign from October 2025 to May 2026, marking a significant step toward enhanced public safety.
The surrendered weapons were formally presented during a ceremonial turnover at the ICPO grounds, Camp Achilles D. Plagata, City Proper, on Monday morning, May 18.
Police Colonel Wilbert B. Parilla, ICPO director, said the surrender of unregistered firearms is a testament to the community’s cooperation and the success of intensified police efforts to eradicate illegal weapons and promote responsible gun ownership.
The 140 firearms were collected through the combined efforts of Iloilo City Police Stations 1 to 10, ICPO Headquarters, and the Iloilo City Mobile Force Company (ICMFC).
“We thank the community for its continued support in our campaign against loose firearms that may be used in illegal activities,” Parilla said.
“This initiative reflects the trust and confidence of the community in the police, as well as their strong commitment to maintaining peace and order,” he continued.
The turnover ceremony was attended by key officials, including Police Lieutenant Colonel Reynald E. Ariño, deputy chief of the Regional Civil Security Unit 6 (RCSU6) and chief of the Firearms and Explosives Section (FES) of the Police Regional Office (PRO-6).
Also present were Police Lieutenant Colonel Lindley T. Barrientos, deputy city director for administration; Police Lieutenant Colonel Lorenez G. Losaria, deputy city director for operations; and Police Lieutenant Colonel Jereme M. Belo, chief of the City Operations and Management Unit and OIC of the Mobile Patrol Unit.
The firearm surrender program is a core component of the ICPO’s ongoing crime prevention strategy to secure the city.IMT
