A timely tip from local residents led to a series of successful military encounters in Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on Saturday, May 16, resulting in the neutralization of five remnants of a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and the recovery of several high-powered firearms.

Troops from the 15th Infantry Battalion, operating under the 302nd Infantry “Achiever” Brigade, engaged the remnants of the South-West Front (SWF) Komiteng-Rehiyon Negros (KR-N) after receiving reliable intelligence from the community regarding the presence of armed individuals in the hinterlands of Barangays Abaca and Poblacion.

During the operations, government forces seized eight high-powered firearms, notably including one M60 machine gun.

Major General Michael G. Samson, Commander of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, lauded the operation’s success, calling it a significant blow to the remaining CTG elements in the region.

“This operation demonstrates the unwavering commitment of our troops, in partnership with the local communities, to protect the people from the threats and atrocities perpetrated by these armed groups,” he stated.

He further emphasized the critical role of civilian cooperation in maintaining regional security.

“The tip-off of the local populace reflects the growing trust and confidence of the community in the Army. We assure you that your Army will sustain intensified, focused military operations to prevent the fleeing CNTs from regrouping and to thwart any attempt to sow fear and disrupt the peaceful lives of innocent civilians.”

Following the encounters, the leadership of the 3rd Infantry Division reiterated its call for the remaining CTG members to lay down their arms.

Military officials urged the insurgents to abandon the armed struggle, surrender peacefully, and take advantage of government reintegration programs to facilitate their safe return to mainstream society.IMT
