The Iloilo City Government will provide fisherfolk with quality safety gear and P3,000 in financial assistance as part of its efforts to strengthen the local fisheries sector and support their livelihoods.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Raisa Treñas said the city continues to prioritize programs that benefit farmers and fisherfolk, describing the sector as one of the administration’s key priorities.
Aside from the cash assistance, the city will distribute safety gear to help ensure safer fishing operations.
Treñas also said fisherfolk will be eligible to avail themselves of the city’s HAPLOS Program, which provides access to healthcare services through partner hospitals.
The mayor likewise encouraged fisherfolk to sell their catch through the city’s Merkado Lokal program. Under the initiative, the city government will provide styro boxes to help preserve the freshness of the fish and improve their market value.
