Construction on the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II (JRMP II) High Line Canal in Calinog, Iloilo, is entering its final stages, achieving an 87.92% physical completion rate as of September 2026.
According to the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), remaining civil works are scheduled for completion by December 2027, with the facility reaching full operational capacity in the first quarter of 2028.
Once operational, the canal system will supply water to 31,840 hectares of farmland across Iloilo, directly aiding 25,000 local farmers facing unpredictable weather patterns and severe dry spells.
While intermittent heavy rainfall has periodically hampered site access and equipment movement, NIA project managers and field contractors report active mitigation efforts to maintain timeline targets while preserving strict build-quality standards.
“The PMO and contractors are proactively working together to monitor site conditions, manage construction activities, and address implementation concerns as they arise,” NIA said.
“These coordinated and collaborative efforts are intended to minimize delays while ensuring that remaining works are carried out in accordance with established engineering specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards,” the agency continued.
The mega-project remains a centerpiece of national efforts to fortify food security, improve crop productivity, and mitigate flooding throughout the region under the banner Katuwang sa Kauswagan.IMT
