Senator Kiko Pangilinan commended the Bureau of Customs and the National Bureau of Investigation for seizing P35.4 million worth of smuggled onions, garlic, and other agricultural products.

Pangilinan said the operation helps protect local farmers, especially onion growers affected by illegal imports that drive down farmgate prices.

“’Yung P35 million na nakumpiskang smuggled onions, P35 million na pwedeng mapunta sa bulsa ng ating mga onion farmers,” he said.

The shipment was uncovered in an operation led by Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno and NBI Director Melvin Matibag.

Pangilinan said the crackdown strengthens food security and supports Filipino farmers and fisherfolk.

Authorities are still investigating the shipment and verifying import documents.IMT
