Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan is pushing for closer coordination among the Department of Agriculture, Commission on Higher Education, and local government units to better prepare agriculture students for jobs in the farming sector.
The senator said the country’s farming population is getting older while many young Filipinos are choosing other jobs because they see little future in agriculture.
“So, here you have students who need to graduate but before they graduate, they need to do OJT. Eh dapat nakaangkla na yung CHED, yung DA, yung LGU, yung Bureau of Extension Services at yung Bureau of Cooperatives para natutukan yung agri hanggang sa baba,” Pangilinan said.
He added that stronger coordination would encourage more young people to stay in farming because they can see a clear career path.
“And in that way, magkakaroon ng enganyo yung ating mga next generation of young farmers na mag-farming dahil maliwanag yung career path nila.”IMT
