Senator-Judge Panfilo Lacson said a fair, evidence-based decision in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte could help bring stability to the country.
Lacson made the statement Saturday during the 65th anniversary celebration of the Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) in Makati City.
“A fair decision will bring stability to the country… As long as the decision is fair and based on evidence as presented without any political color, then it will bring stability to the country,” he said.
However, Lacson said the trial is not yet at the point where the Senate can decide on the case since the defense has yet to present its evidence.
“Hindi pa complete, kasi the defense has not yet presented their evidence. We only hear one side of the story. We need to hear the other side,” he said.
Lacson earlier said efforts to speed up the proceedings should focus on maximizing the limited hearing time and not on cutting short the presentation of evidence.
The senator said the eventual decision should be based on the Constitution and evidence presented during the trial, rather than political considerations or public opinion.IMT
