Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson has fired back at former Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano after the latter suggested that he should be investigated for allegedly using his position to go after critics.
Lacson said Cayetano’s remarks only proved that exposing alleged corruption has made him a target of attacks.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Aug. 5, Lacson quoted a news report saying Cayetano wanted him investigated for supposedly targeting his critics.
“‘Cayetano said Lacson should be investigated for using his position to target his critics.’ – Philippine Star… Translation: Lacson should be investigated for targeting corrupt public officials,” hr wrote.
The exchange came after Lacson raised alleged illegal reclamation activities in parts of Laguna Lake and vowed to coordinate with government agencies to prosecute those behind the project and recover reclaimed areas for the government.
Cayetano earlier claimed Lacson has become aggressive in conducting investigations because he is allegedly backed by administration officials.
Lacson rejected the accusation, saying he has consistently exposed anomalies regardless of who was in power. He also recalled that he faced accusations during the Arroyo administration but maintained they were eventually proven baseless.IMT
