Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said the recent incidents of school violence made him reflect on the kind of discipline children received during his generation.
According to Lacson, parents and teachers were stricter before, and those lessons helped instill respect, responsibility, and accountability at an early age.
In a post on X, Lacson shared how children in his time were expected to follow rules both at home and in school.
“JUVENILE JUSTICE LAW: My generation must be missing our fathers’ belts, our mothers’ bamboo sticks, and our teachers’ rulers. We were disciplined, always at home for the 6 o’clock evening prayers to receive our daily blessings from our elders. Those were the days,” Lacson wrote.
His remarks came after a Senate hearing revealed that the minors involved in the Tacloban school shooting may have been influenced by the international online extremist network known as 764.IMT
