Senator Ping Lacson said the Senate is financially “able and ready” if the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio pushes through.

He noted that out of the P27-million allocation under the 2025 budget, only about P500,000 was used when the Articles of Impeachment were last transmitted to the Senate.

Because the funds are under “continuing appropriations,” Lacson said they remain available for up to two years—meaning the chamber can proceed with a trial anytime the case is sent over.

“Since the fund is good for two years under ‘continuing appropriations,’ the Senate is financially able and ready to conduct the trial if and when the Articles of Impeachment are transmitted,” he added.

Lacson also said preparations have been ongoing, together with Senate President Tito Sotto, in case the House transmits the case this year.

He stressed that any vote he makes will be based solely on evidence. He also reminded fellow senators to observe proper conduct as potential senator-judges should the impeachment proceed.IMT
