LTFRB gets election ban exemption for P12 fuel discount

The P12-per-liter fuel discount for traditional and modernized jeepneys and UV Express units has resumed in Western Visayas after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) secured an exemption from the election spending ban.

The discount was temporarily suspended starting Sept. 18 because of the election ban, LTFRB Western Visayas Chief Transportation Development Officer Ma. Joscet Abellar said in an interview.

Abellar said the LTFRB’s central office notified the regional office Monday evening that the exemption had been approved, allowing eligible operators to resume availing of the discount.

The fuel discount had previously been set at P10 per liter before being increased to P12 last month amid rising fuel prices.

Each eligible unit can avail of the discount for up to 1,500 liters over five days, or a maximum of 30 liters per day, at participating gasoline stations.

The program benefits an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 units in Western Visayas, including Negros Occidental.PNA
