President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. leaves Wednesday, Oct. 7, for a five-day working visit to Singapore, where he is expected to discuss stronger economic ties and regional concerns with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

The October 7 to 11 visit comes as the Philippines nears the end of its stint as chair of ASEAN, with Singapore set to take over the role next year, according to Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Analyn Ratonel.

“Ang Working Visit na ito ay bahagi ng inisyatibo ng bansa upang mapalalim ang ating ugnayan sa Singapore, mapalawak ang ating economic engagement, at isulong ang ating kooperasyon sa mga sektor na makatutulong sa kaunlaran ng ating bansa,” Ratonel said.

Marcos Jr. is expected to meet Wong to discuss bilateral cooperation as well as developments in the region.

He will also attend the 24th Forbes Global CEO Conference, where he is expected to meet Singaporean and international business leaders and present the Philippines’ investment priorities.

Part of his itinerary is a visit to the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute, where he will learn about Singapore’s experience in nuclear technology and safety.

The visit is part of the Philippines’ preparations for the 49th ASEAN Summit, which Marcos Jr. will lead in Manila from November 16 to 18.IMT
