President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced Monday, May 4, the rollout of a new college scholarship program under the “Bawat Barangay Makikinabang” initiative, aimed at boosting access to education nationwide.
Through the Socio-Civic Projects Fund, each barangay will receive P200,000, with P100,000 allocated for five presidential scholars per barangay.
Each scholar will get P20,000 in educational assistance. With about 42,000 barangays nationwide, the program is expected to benefit over 200,000 students.
Marcos Jr. made the announcement during a launch event in General Trias City, Cavite.
“Kapag maganda ang naging edukasyon mo, nag-aral kayo nang mabuti, napakabigat na kayamanan ‘yan na nasa sa inyo. At kahit ano pang mangyari, hindi na makukuha ‘yan sa inyo,” he emphasized.
The program aims to empower barangays to directly support students and develop future leaders, strengthening academic opportunities at the community level.
The administration said the initiative is part of its goal to invest in education and prepare the youth for nation-building.IMT
