For many senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs), the cost of maintenance medicines can be a continuing burden on their families. Through the MediSen+ Program, Mayor Raisa S. Treñas is helping ease this burden by bringing free medicines for common chronic conditions closer to those who need them.
Under her administration’s RISE-to-ACTION Framework, particularly its Rising Health and Social Services pillar, Treñas has committed to sustaining MediSen+ through an annual city budget.
She recognized the significant support it provides not only to senior citizens and PWDs but also to their family members who shoulder the cost of their medications.
Launched on August 3 with an initial P20-million allocation, MediSen+ will provide commonly prescribed medicines for hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and cholesterol management, among other chronic conditions. Procurement is currently underway.
Once available, the medicines will be distributed through the city’s nine District Health Centers and 80 Barangay Health Stations, bringing the service closer to communities.
Eligible senior citizens and PWDs are encouraged to register at their nearest Barangay Health Station or District Health Center while waiting for the medicines to arrive.
Mayor Treñas added that the city is also expanding access to medicines through the PhilHealth YAKAP Pharmacy Program.
She announced that the Iloilo City Hall Pharmacy and the city’s nine district pharmacies are being registered as PhilHealth-accredited YAKAP Pharmacies.
Once accredited, these facilities will provide up to 75 essential medicines required under the PhilHealth program, allowing eligible PhilHealth members to receive medicines free of charge.
