Property giant Megaworld Corporation has successfully completed the transition of its company-owned offices, hotel, and retail properties inside the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park (IBP) in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, to 100% renewable energy, marking a major milestone in the developer’s nationwide sustainability push.

The latest phase of this green transition covers 10 office towers and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, made possible through a strategic partnership with First Gen Corporation, one of the country’s leading renewable energy producers.

The newly transitioned office properties include One Global Center (Towers A and B), Two Global Center (Towers A and B), One Techno Place (Towers A and B), Richmonde Tower, Two Techno Place, and Three Techno Place (Towers A and B).

These structures now join other Megaworld-owned developments in the township that previously made the shift, including One Fintech Place, Two Fintech Place, Festive Walk Mall, Festive Walk Parade, and Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo.

Ryan Salvador, Megaworld’s senior assistant vice president and MREIT technical head, emphasized that this achievement reflects the broader commitments of Megaworld’s parent company, Alliance Global Group (AGI).

“Sustainability is, therefore, not simply an initiative that we pursue on the side of our businesses. It is increasingly becoming a mark of how we operate, grow, and create value for stakeholders and the communities we serve,” he said.

“By working with a renewable energy company like First Gen, we are able to take concrete steps towards reducing the environmental impact of our properties while continuing to support the growth of our businesses.”

The shift in IBP is a core component of MEGreen, Megaworld’s company-wide sustainability program launched in 2023.

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and aims to integrate environmentally responsible practices across all developments.

First Gen currently supplies a total of 25 megawatts of renewable energy to the Alliance Global Group.

Carlo Vega, First Gen vice president and chief customer engagement officer, commended Megaworld and AGI for moving beyond mere corporate promises.

“I am inspired by AGI’s sustainability journey that laid out clear targets to achieve carbon neutrality,” he said.

“There are a lot of announcements in the industry saying they really want to be sustainable… but when the rubber hits the road, it is partnerships like this that manifest if you are really in, or just announcing. We look forward to working with you, not just on power supply, but in your decarbonization journey and being more energy efficient.”

Jose Arnulfo Batac, Megaworld’s head of sustainability, echoed this sentiment, noting that making sustainability an integral part of township management is the company’s ultimate goal.

“We are grateful to First Gen for being our partner as we continue to move more of our properties toward cleaner and more sustainable sources of energy,” he said.

The successful transition in Western Visayas is just the beginning of a much larger blueprint.IMT
