More than 5.4 million students have benefited from the Free Higher Education Law since it took effect in 2018, Senate President Win Gatchalian said.
According to Gatchalian’s office, the figure includes more than 4 million beneficiaries under the Free Higher Education Program and 1.4 million recipients of the Tertiary Education Subsidy through Academic Year 2025-2026.
The senator also said additional funding under the 2026 national budget will help state universities and colleges admit more qualified students after thousands failed to secure slots.
The bicameral report on the proposed amendments to the law has also been ratified by both chambers of Congress and is now ready for enrollment.
“Makakaasa po ang ating mga SUCs na patuloy natin silang susuportahan upang maabot pa natin ang mas maraming mag-aaral at makapaghatid tayo ng dekalidad na edukasyon,” Gatchalian said.IMT
