The government has identified P22.79 billion in savings that will be used to help Filipinos affected by the conflict in the Middle East, according to Malacañang.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the savings were identified by the Department of Budget and Management after government agencies were ordered to declare their unused or excess funds.
The money will help finance the expanded Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food and Transport program announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Castro said the assistance will benefit farmers, workers, commuters, overseas Filipino workers, and low-income families affected by the crisis.
She also disclosed that P12.57 billion has already been released to the Department of Social Welfare and Development to provide financial assistance to families in need.
The remaining savings will also support programs of the Department of Migrant Workers, Department of Transportation, and Department of Energy for sectors affected by the conflict in the Middle East.IMT
