The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Western Visayas (RTWPB-6) has dismissed the petition seeking a wage increase for workers in the region after petitioners failed to submit the complete documentary requirements.
The petition, filed by the United Labor–Western Visayas Workers’ Alliance, sought a P250 increase in the daily minimum wage amid rising prices of basic commodities and fuel.
However, RTWPB-6 said the labor group was unable to comply with the required supporting documents needed for the petition to proceed.
The wage board said the group was given five days to complete the deficiencies after receiving formal notice dated May 6, 2026, but failed to submit the necessary documents within the prescribed period, prompting the dismissal of the petition.
Despite the development, the labor alliance maintained that its petition was valid and supported by registered labor unions that signed the proposal.
Elmer Forro, chairperson of the group, said they do not agree with the wage board’s basis for rejecting the petition.
Under the current Wage Order No. RBVI-29, which took effect in November 2025, the minimum wage in Western Visayas ranges from P520 to P550 depending on the sector and size of the company.
Many workers in the region continue to call for higher wages as households grapple with the continued increase in the prices of essential goods and services.IMT
