Malacañang said the Office of the Ombudsman is working to speed up its investigation of various cases but needs time to go through a large volume of documents.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has not asked the Ombudsman to rush its investigations.
“May sariling mandato ang Office of the Ombudsman. Ito po ay isang independent body,” Castro said Monday, Aug. 31.
She said the Palace has been hearing Ombudsman Boying Remulla’s statements on how his office is reviewing the documents submitted to it.
“Nadidinig naman natin ang mga report, mga salita, ang mga mensahe ni Ombudsman Boying Remulla, kung paano sila nagtatrabaho at paano nila inaaral ang mga naipasa na mga dokumento sa kanilang opisina,” Castro added.
Castro said the Palace understands that the Ombudsman is dealing with a large number of documents and cases.
She also stressed that investigations should not be rushed just for the sake of speed.
A case that is hastily prepared could end up being weak, and the Ombudsman could later be blamed if it is dismissed because of insufficient evidence, according to her.IMT
